HOW THE HR SCORE
IS CALCULATED

We combine real atmospheric data with park geometry to give you a single, actionable number. No guesswork — just physics.

01
💨
Wind Direction & Speed
We calculate the effective tailwind toward center field using the stadium's CF bearing. A 20 mph tailwind is worth ±55 score points — ~3.6 ft of extra carry per mph.
02
⛰️
Altitude Factor
Thinner air at elevation means less drag. Coors Field in the Mile High City earns the maximum +15 altitude points. Sea level parks get zero. Worth ~6 ft of carry per 1,000 ft.
03
🌡️
Temperature Effect
Warm air is less dense — baseballs carry farther. Hot summer days add up to +20 points; cold April games can suppress by −20.
04
🏟️
Park & Roof Intelligence
What about retractable roofs being open/closed? We monitor that. We’ll let you know about roof status and exactly how it impacts the HR Score. In case you were wondering, yep Tropicana Field is permanently domed — no weather effect.

QUESTIONS?

How is the HR Score different from just checking the weather?
A generic weather app tells you wind speed. BallparkEdge translates that into a park-specific carry impact — factoring in the exact direction relative to each stadium's center field, altitude, temperature, and roof status. It's the difference between "18 mph winds" and "18 mph winds adding +12 feet of carry at Fenway today."
When is the data updated each day?
Weather data is pulled fresh from Open-Meteo and lineup data from the MLB Stats API each time you load the page. Forecasts are most accurate within 6 hours of first pitch — check back closer to game time for the sharpest read.
Do you cover dome or retractable roof stadiums?
Yes. Fixed-dome stadiums (like the old Tropicana Field) show a score of 0 — weather doesn't apply indoors. Retractable roof parks (Chase Field, Globe Life, etc.) show an estimated roof status based on current conditions, with a clear warning to verify before playing.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes, absolutely. Subscriptions are managed through Stripe. You can cancel at any time from your account page and you'll keep access through the end of your billing period.
What happens to my billing when baseball isn't being played?
All subscriptions pause at the end of October and resume automatically when the season kicks off — no action needed on your end. Your billing date carries over, so if you were billed on October 12th, your next charge falls on April 12th. And here's the best part: every subscriber gets free access through April 1st each year while the stats build up from spring training. If the World Series runs into November, you keep full access through the final out — we don't cut you off mid-postseason.
